DIY Gifts for Men: Herbal DIY Beard Oil & Aftershave

Looking for the perfect gift for the man in your life? Look no further than this DIY beard oil and aftershave combo. For these two recipes, I’ve collaborated with my friends at iHerb, to supply the right ingredients into a soothing combination will tame even the most unruly of beards. As a sponsor of this post, iHerb also has a special offer for Garden Therapy readers! You’ll find that at the end; but first, let’s talk about men’s herbal beauty.

DIY beard soil and aftershave spray

Are the men in your life the most difficult to shop for? Why not try the DIY route! I was able to craft the perfect blend of essential oils to make a musky, woodsy scent perfect for all those who shave or have beards.

My recipes for DIY beard oil and herbal aftershave add a hint of luxury to the self-care routine and make the perfect DIY beauty gifts for those with an abundance of facial hair.

There is no doubt the beauty world leans heavily towards women. However, men should also get to experience some luxury too with their own products! A lot of my beauty recipes can be used by anyone, but I wanted to create a couple of beauty gifts for men that were catered specially for them.

DIY Skin Care Gifts for Men

What do men prize most in the beauty world?

Their facial hair of course!

You can always tell the difference between a well-cared-for beard and a neglected one. The good news is a couple of minutes every day is all a man needs to keep his beard looking sleek and clean.

Glass bottle of DIY beard oil and herbal after shave spray

I crafted two super simple recipes, herbal beard softening and conditioning oil and a herbal aftershave. Not only are they simple to make, but they are also easy to use for a low-fuss routine. A couple of drops or a quick spray can go a long way!

They make for amazing gifts for your beard wearing family and friends. Homemade gifts are so much more personalized and they will appreciate the time and effort you put into making these gifts. I like to give a scented and unscented version of the same recipe, so they can try them out and see which they prefer.

Add some unique and custom packaging or even play around with the scents for a personal touch. The special man who receives it will know it was made just for them.

Why Should I Use Beard Oil and Aftershave?

Are you familiar with the beard itch? Even us ladies who don’t have to deal with beards have likely heard about this annoying side-effect of growing hair from the face. Beard itch it often caused by dry skin under the hair in combination with dry hair. Since having a beard removes moisture from the skin, it’s important to bring it back.

That’s where the beard oil comes in. It can help to bring moisture back to relieve that itch. Making the beard less abrasive and tamer, it also softens the skin and hair. It helps to encourage beard growth by strengthen the hair and making it less prone to breakage.

For those who like a freshly shaven face, aftershave can also help to soothe irritated skin. Shaving severely dries out the skin, leaving it tight and prickly. Aftershave helps to re-hydrate the skin and avoid any future itchy, prickly feelings. It also helps to close pores, preventing dirt and bacteria from getting in, the main cause behind breakouts and razor burn. Impurities begone!

homemade beard oil with herbal properities

Both of these products smell absolutely amazing, using an all-natural blend of essential oils. For inspiration, I went with musky and woodsy scents, balanced with hints of lavender and bergamot. The essential oils can be left out for an unscented version as well.

Sponsored Content: I’ve worked with iHerb on a ton of projects in the past and I am thrilled to have them sponsor this post. I shopped online at iHerb for all of the ingredients to make these beauty gifts for men and never disappoint. I always feel like I am getting high-quality ingredients at a fair price, making my homemade beauty products both affordable and easy to make.

Not Just for Men!

While I made these recipes for folks with beards in mind, that doesn’t mean they can’t be used on any body! The aftershave is designed to soothe skin, no matter where it is. From legs to arms, just apply some of the aftershave once you’ve set the razor aside and washed off.

And for the people who prefer not to shave, the beard oil works the same way on body hair as it does for facial hair. Relieve itch and moisturize by applying the oil whenever needed.

The Ingredient List

These are some of the ingredients I have chosen from iHerb for the DIY beard oil and aftershave and why I love them.

Shea Butter

This Now Foods, Solutions, Shea Butter is extremely moisturizing and is absorbs well into the skin. A hint of it works to protect the beard and help it remain under control.

Jojoba Oil

This Now Foods, Solutions, Jojoba Oil is extremely close to our skin’s own sebum and it won’t clog pores. This also means it won’t feel heavy on the beard and instead will absorb into the hair.

Grapeseed Oil

Now Foods, Solutions, Organic Grapeseed Oil works as the base of the beard essential oil blend and will help to contribute to the soft feeling of the hair. It is fast absorbing and dry, helping to combat a greasy feeling.

Organic Witch Hazel

The base of the aftershave recipe, Humphrey’s Witch Hazel is a natural astringent that helps to remove oil from the face. It also calms and reduces inflammation, perfect for post-shave skin.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is a soothing and calming scent. The Now Foods, Essential Oils, Lavender is subtle but pleasant and is one of the safest essential oils for skin.

Peppermint Essential Oil

The main ingredient to help combat itch, Now Foods, Essential Oils, Peppermint is well known for its cooling effects on the skin and stimulating scent.

Bergamot Essential Oil

A skin stress reliever, this Now Foods, Essential Oils, Bergamot is a citrusy delight and provides an uplifting scent to the blend.

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Now Foods, Essential Oils, Cedarwood gives these recipes their trademarked woodsy scent to refresh and awaken the senses.

Glass dropper bottle filled with diy beard oilHow to Make Herbal DIY Beard Oil that Softens and Conditions

When it comes to making a DIY beard oil, or an oil for any other hair, it is essential that the blend is not too greasy or it will weigh down hair. This recipe is nourishing yet light, helping to tame and hydrate a beard.

Because of how close these recipes will be applied to the face, they are lightly scented. However, some people may prefer unscented products and can choose to not include the essential oil blend.

To use, pour a few drops into your palm (or more if you have an impressive beard) and rub hands together to warm up the oils. Run your hands through your beard until oil is evenly distributed.

Herbal Aftershave

Put this aftershave on a recently shaven face to help soothe and hydrate inflamed skin, complete with a woodsy scent to wake up and feel refreshed. Without the essential oils, it is just pure witch hazel so if you are using it for yourself, there is no need to package it up. However, as a gift, this unscented aftershave looks great in an amber spray bottle.

Comments

  1. Thanks for your generosity sharing so much valuable and beautiful knowledge.
I was wondering if I can use bee wax instead of shea butter or a mix of both? I am a beekeeper and will love to make something special for my husband that contains either honey properties or bee wax.
    Thank you
